Is this a good place to start?

Yes. It has everything needed for proper matcha at home — the tea, the whisk and the scoop. Nothing else to buy.

What are the whisk and scoop for?

The bamboo whisk (chasen) is what creates the froth; a spoon will not do the same thing. The scoop (chashaku) measures roughly 2 g, which is one cup.

How do I look after the whisk?

Rinse it in warm water after use — no soap — shake off the excess, and let it dry standing upright. Do not leave it sitting in water.

How do I make a cup?

Scoop about 2 g into a bowl, add a little water at 70–80 °C, and whisk briskly in a zig-zag until frothy. Top up with water or milk.

How long will the matcha last?

Around 20 cups. Keep the pouch airtight, cool and dark to hold the colour and the flavour.
